The 2022 extension and the Homosassa interchange
Bay News 9 reported in 2022 that the extension opened with two new interchanges, "one in Hernando County on U.S. 98 and the other on West Cardinal Street in Homosassa."[1] Homosassa is a census-designated place in Citrus County, not a city.[8] See our Homosassa page for land near the West Cardinal Street interchange.
State Road 44 to County Road 486: open since 2025
In December 2024, the Citrus County Chronicle reported that the work to extend the parkway from S.R. 44 to C.R. 486, creating intersections at both, was estimated at $103 million and expected to be finished by late 2026.[2] It finished sooner. WUSF reported on August 28, 2025 that the segment opened 500 days early, adding that "It's only three miles from State Road 44 to Norvell Bryant Highway."[3] Florida's Turnpike Enterprise lists Suncoast Parkway 2 as "Project Completed,"[4] and the project contractor, Superior Construction, says on its own website that it delivered Phase 2A in August 2025.[5]

County Road 486 to County Road 495: work began in August 2025
WUSF reported in August 2025 that the next section, a $244 million project from C.R. 486 to C.R. 495, began in mid-August and would continue for at least five years.[3] If you are looking at land near C.R. 486 or C.R. 495, ask the Turnpike Enterprise for the current schedule and the right-of-way maps for this section, and treat any completion date as a forecast.
County Road 495 to U.S. 19: the planned US 19 interchange
Florida's Turnpike Enterprise describes the final section, from C.R. 495 to U.S. 19, as including "constructing a new interchange at U.S. 19." Its project page says work is expected to continue through late 2031; its July 2026 fact sheet says through 2031.[6][7] WUSF summarized the plan as extending the parkway about 10 miles from C.R. 486 to U.S. 19.[3] See our U.S. 19 page for the corridor itself.

Buying commercial land near a Suncoast Parkway interchange
The Florida Department of Revenue lists city levies in Citrus County only for those two cities. For fiscal year 2025-26 the Citrus County Board of County Commissioners adopted an operating millage of 6.9898, with separate county levies for transportation (0.9860), fire and emergency medical services (0.5780), the library district (0.3147) and the health board (0.0564).[9] The Census Bureau estimated 171,666 Citrus County residents on July 1, 2025 and 169,821 a year earlier.[10]
An interchange does not guarantee access to a particular parcel. If you are buying near one, ask how the parcel reaches the interchange road, whether frontage roads or driveway permits are planned, what utilities reach the site, and how the zoning and future land use fit your plan. For a segment still being built, price the land on the access it has today, and ask for the agency's current schedule.
